The University of Zagreb (UNIZG) is the oldest, largest, and academically and scientifically leading university in the Republic of Croatia. It consists of 34 constituent units (faculties and academies) and has a total enrolment of over 68,000 students. According to the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) 2024, UNIZG ranks 508th out of 20,966 universities, placing it among the top 2.5% of universities worldwide.
The University of Zagreb Faculty of Agriculture (UNIZG FA) is the successor of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, established in 1919 as the fifth faculty of the University. Since January 1, 1960, it has operated as an independent institution.
UNIZG FA is renowned for its robust scientific activity, demonstrating considerable research capacity and potential. Its scientific and professional productivity places it among the leading units at the UNIZG, a distinction further affirmed by its standing in international rankings. In 2023, the UNIZG achieved its best result in the NTU Rankings (Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities), published by the prestigious National Taiwan University. Out of 1,044 ranked institutions, UNIZG placed between 501st and 550th, and in the field of agriculture, it ranked between 301st and 350th.
UNIZG FA offers a wide array of university-level study programs in the field of biotechnical sciences and conducts extensive scientific research and professional activities across several disciplines. Its programs cover all aspects of agricultural production and related fields, including agricultural economics, agritourism, and landscape architecture. The UNIZG FA currently offers 9 undergraduate programs, 16 graduate programs, one postgraduate doctoral program, and four postgraduate specialist programs. Additionally, the Faculty supports lifelong learning through a variety of educational courses, lectures, and certified training programs officially recognized in employment records.
The faculty’s significant scientific and professional achievements are reflected in its project activities. In 2023, UNIZG FA scientists led 19 projects funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, while also being partners in 18 projects. International collaboration plays a key role in the faculty’s scientific output. In the same year, the faculty’s employees led one and partnered in seven Horizon projects, contributed to two LIFE projects and six COST projects, led four and partnered in two bilateral projects, led two and partnered in 11 international scientific projects, and led six and partnered in 13 ESIF projects.
UNIZG FA has also made significant contributions to the international scientific community, organizing the 3rd International Rupicapra Symposium and preparing to host the 14th International Wild Boar Symposium in 2026 and the 38th International Union of Game Biologists (IUGB) Congress in 2027.
Furthermore, the Faculty is a member of the European Network of Wildlife Professionals—the ENETWILD Consortium.
