On Saturday, 29 November, the Laboratory of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries of the School of Forestry and Natural Environment of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki conducted an educational field trip to the Controlled Hunting Area of Oreini–Serres, within the framework of the European Erasmus+ project “SHUNTDIEM”.
The field trip was coordinated by Professor Dimitrios Bakaloudis, with the participation of Assistant Professor Vasileios Bontzorlos. A total of 31 undergraduate and postgraduate students participated.
The students received a briefing from the Forest Director of Serres regarding the operation of the Controlled Hunting Area, its division into 25 sectors, the established harvesting limits, and the control and monitoring procedures implemented by the staff of the Forest Service.
A field-based practical exercise was conducted, focusing on wildlife population size assessment through indirect methods.
